May 14th 2008 marked 60 years since the state of Israel declared its independence.
What is it about this small country that has kept it constantly in our news headlines? Why is there so much controversy about it? What does the future have in store? Why should we even care?
Israel's dominance in world affairs is no coincidence. Although the state of Israel was formed only 60 years ago, Israel as a nation has existed for much longer than that; for around 3500 years in fact! And they are not just any old nation - they are God's chosen people; chosen for a specific reason. This is why they are unlike any other nation and have such a bearing on world affairs.
To coincide with their anniversary, we held a series of presentations on Israel throughout May 2008 in which we explored the nation, their relationship with their neighbours and their relationship with God, and in so doing revealed some amazing facts about them that you never knew before!
These presentations are now available to view again on this page. Although the anniversary is now in the past, the information contained within remains just as relevant as it did at the time. As you progress through the series, you'll see how an interest in Israel is not just an academic exercise, but has a real bearing on the future of each and every one of us! That is to say, your future is linked to that of Israel!

1) Israel - God's chosen land
How it all began; in this opening presentation, we go back 4000 years and look at how the land of Israel came to be of significance even before the nation itself was born. An understanding of these events is vital in fully appreciating the significance of Israel today.

2) The Jews - God's true witnesses
The birth of a nation; having looked at how the land of Israel came to be of importance, we will move on to consider the people of Israel, how the nation was born, and how events throughout their history have provided amazing evidence as to the existence of God and of his purpose.

3) The significance of the Jews' return to Israel
Prophecy fulfilled; the world looked on in May 1948 as the state of Israel declared its independence, but how many people realised that this event had actually been prophesied in the Bible thousands of years earlier? Looking further into this will reveal how amazingly accurate the scriptures are and show how those events in 1948 were of vital importance in the purpose of God!
